A bit of a thaw

There had been another covering of snow overnight, but it didn’t seem so cold. We had a meeting at Braidbar to catch up on a few things and highlight a couple more snagging items that have come to light — nothing big, but things we want to get sorted. So we walked there via Middlewood Way.

We returned via the towpath, and the canal looks really odd when it’s covered not just in ice but snow as well. There were even footprints in the snow, probably foxes rather than people’s dogs.

There were already signs that things were warming up slightly, with some of the snow having disappeared. The ducks were also keeping some parts of the canal ice-free. This afternoon we’ve had rain rather than snow, which has accelerated the process; the bank is more green than white, and the pontoons are returning to concrete. To while away the afternoon, I made a couple of individual apple and blueberry crumbles, with fruit that needed using up.
