A cold but sunny walk

We timed our walk right today, because although it was very cold it was beautifully bright; just after we got back it snowed. We followed the lane the marina is on up the hill away from the canal, then crossed a field onto a farm track via a protected stile.

There’s a rather nice farm building, with views of the tower blocks of Manchester way beyond.

We followed the track further up the hill onto the Pott Shrigley road. Then we took another track which led to the entrance of the western part of the Lyme Estate. The cottage here is a National Trust holiday let.

We cut back onto the road, which turned out to be the one that goes under the canal. We’ve not approached it on foot from this direction before, although we have driven it. There were lots of icicles hanging from the aqueduct, which makes it clear how much water is seeping out.

We carried on up the lane to Middlewood Way to return. Adrian then headed back to the boat while I did another loop to complete my step count. This included part of the canal towpath, where I could see that boats had been through previously and then the canal had frozen again. There were lots of sheets of ice frozen in different positions.

As I walked back it began to snow, and for half an hour or so it was quite heavy. We’ve had other flurries throughout the afternoon too. We’ve put away the Christmas decorations and have also put up a couple more pictures, using Command strips again. Adrian has also been doing some computer work.
