Kingley Vale: The story so far

Welcome to the Kingley Vale blog! Yes, we’re having a new boat, so there will be a new blog.

This process actually began a long time go. We’ve been planning on having a new boat at some point for many years, and you really do need to start planning these things early. It was November 2021 when we booked the build slot at Braidbar Boats. Back then, the build was due to start October 2024 and finish in March this year. There has been some slippage, but recently the timings have moved the other way a bit, so the shell will be launched in April, and the fitout should be finished in November.

In between, we’ve had meetings to discuss the details, further calls and emails to fine tune things. Now we have approved the plan, signed and returned the contracts, and paid some money. That means the shell can be ordered from Tim Tyler imminently.

If you know Briar Rose, you might notice that the basic layout is very similar. But we’re going with portholes and side doors rather than windows, and it will be hybrid drive and gas free. Over the next few weeks, I’ll outline some of the choices we’ve made, and then things will really start happening once the shell is in the water.

  1. Just refreshed my memory around the name you’ve picked. We walked it quite a few times when we lived in West Ashling. Lovely name lovely place.

  2. Perfect length for a boat. So glad your plan is coming together, looking forward to watching the build progress.
Hope to see you out and about sometime this year
