Happy New Year! We did manage to stay awake until midnight, and there seemed to be lots of fireworks around. Then it rained overnight, which meant it wasn’t frosty this morning. We went out for a walk after breakfast, to get our steps done while it was clear. We walked down the towpath to Bridge 21, where we saw a moving boat.

We went up onto the lane and walked the short distance to Middlewood Way for the return. When we got to the bridge by our marina, we still needed steps, so carried on to the car park and then took the lane to the aqueduct. Once up on the towpath again, we saw the same boat heading towards us.

The February edition of Waterways World is out, and includes Mark Langley’s review of Kingley Vale. Fortunately he says very nice things about the boat!

This issue also includes a piece I wrote about 24 Hours in Nantwich, and there’s a contribution of mine to a composite article about what one thing we’d all change about the waterways.
This afternoon, I’ve finally braised a red cabbage we bought for Christmas but hadn’t got round to doing anything with. I had to improvise on some of the ingredients and we also had some slightly elderly apples in the bowl, so they went in as well. There’s a huge amount, so there will be a couple of portions going in the freezer.

A good reason to buy a copy of Waterways World – quite unbelievable that to get a new Braidbar built you’d have to be ordering it now for a 2029-2030 delivery. Says a lot about their desirability.
