Tackling the snagging list

The rain and the wind today meant we were very glad we’d come all the way back to Higher Poynton yesterday, because it would not have been a very nice cruise to do in this weather. We went into the yard to see Jam and Donna with our snagging list. To be honest, it wasn’t very long, and some of the things were questions rather than anything that was wrong. There were also things we’d been waiting to decide on, such as the placement of shelves in a cupboard in the engine room.

After the meeting, Adrian went off to an appointment in Macclesfield, while I returned to the boat. Within minutes, Jam and a couple of the other guys arrived to start on the list. The main thing was the hearing system, as there was clearly air in the system as various radiators weren’t getting hot. Jam tackled each one in turn, using a heat camera to measure their temperatures, then they were all balanced and bled — so they should all now be ok. We also needed a bit more ballast on the starboard side, and there were a couple of other minor things.

After lunch, it had stopped raining so I went out for a walk to get my steps done. I walked further up the canal this time to beyond where the railway goes underneath, and took a path through woods to Middlewood Station. A late-running train to Buxton was just arriving.

Then I walked down Middlewood Way past Higher Poynton to Pott Shrigley. The path I was planning to take to the canal was closed because of a damaged footbridge, but I found another a little further down the road, which went over a stream with a bit of a waterfall.

The path went sharply uphill past a farm where they sell Christmas trees, and back onto the towpath by Bridge 16.

By the time I got back Adrian was also back. While in Macc he’d also done some shopping for the next few days. We’ve spent the afternoon sheltering from the weather, although we’re still being battered by the wind which is really gusty. Tomorrow is supposed to be better.
