Much less cold today, and as the weather was better than expected we headed out for a walk first. We went up Middlewood Way to Higher Poynton, and then out onto the towpath. While some of the ice had melted there was still some left and along at the winding hole a couple of geese were walking on it when it cracked and gave way underneath them. They had a bit of a struggle to break free, but were soon in open water. A bit further along, the top of the ice was littered with bits of tree, probably as a result of yesterday being so windy.

When we got to Bridge 16 we went up the steps and over it.

Then we did the reverse of the walk I did a few days ago, going up the footpath, along the farm track, and through the cattle grid field with the sheep, who were mostly tucking in to their food.

While we were there, we were watching the planes from Manchester Airport in the distance. There had been a bit of excitement among plane spotters because Cathay Pacific had sent a plane that’s recently been repainted in a retro livery. We saw it take off back to Hong Kong, but of course couldn’t see the paint job from that distance! We walked past the National Trust holiday cottage and along the road, but rather than taking the track we’ve used before we went along a bit further and walked across a field. The past brought us to the top of the lane the marina is on.
After lunch, we dashed off to Chester to sort out a problem at my dad’s flat. My sister had discovered that some of his plug sockets were dead and she was on call and had to go back to work. So I got an electrician round and we met him at the flat. He diagnosed the problem and sorted it out, so all was well again.
