October Braidbar visit

We drove up to Braidbar this morning, to see the latest progress. The boat is in the paint shed, and is currently having several undercoats applied. We were able to talk to Johnny the painter about the colours of various bits of detail. I also had a look at the topcoats in the tins — and they are lovely.

Inside, the Refleks diesel stove is in, although the flue hasn’t been installed yet. The dark green tiles also look really good.

On the opposite side of the boat, the corner tv unit with a bookcase alongside is also coming on, and now has its top on. There’s another bookcase and a cupboard on the other side of the radiator.

In the galley, all the appliances are in and so is the Quooker tap. The high level cupboards now have their fiddle rail on the mug rack.

Last time we were up, James asked us what we wanted to do for the dining table — because they’re normally an ash board with oak round the outside, but we’re not having any ash on the boat. He said he had an idea if we were willing to let him surprise us. We actually had a preview of it a week or two ago when he sent a video, but this was the first time actually seeing it. He’s used all oak, but inlaid a walnut line and the Braidbar cruciform. It looks fab.

In the shower room, the basin unit is done and has a tap, and the cupboard above is there.

The wardrobes in the cabin have also come on, with shelves in the top half.

There’s still lots going on in the engine room too. Apparently it’s been quite a challenge to get everything on the instrument panel.

We’ll be up again next month, by which time completion will be within touching distance.
