Oxford: Day 5

Last night’s sleep was somewhat disturbed. There seemed to be some sort of work going on at the railway line, which was quite noisy for the first part of the night. This morning there were big machines there called stone blowers. Hopefully it won’t be tonight as well. Then Macc needed to go out at 5am, and wanted to get up properly at 6.30. For his morning walk we went to the park at Aristotle Lane and back through the houses beyond where one of the post boxes has a knitted cover.

We also walked through the big development of flats to see the Flight of Eagles sculpture. I can’t say it’s a particularly appealing piece of public art, but I suppose it’s better than the vent it appears to be trying to disguise.

There was supposed to be rain overnight but there wasn’t, and showers today also haven’t materialised. Adrian got to LA after what seemed from here like a very long flight, yesterday evening. I’ve spent the day writing the article I intended to do yesterday, but also listening to plenty of Dolly Parton songs following her death yesterday. On that subject, if you haven’t already heard this fantastic podcast series, Dolly Parton’s America, it’s well worth a listen.
