We followed a strategy this morning that has worked for us for the past two Tuesdays: set off about 9 and hope there’s a space on Bollington Aqueduct when we arrive about 45 minutes later. Miraculously, for the third Tuesday running, there was a mooring available — and had we been a few minutes later we’d have had the choice of two. This time were the other side of the boat we were in front of last week, in a spot that should get sunshine for solar a bit later into the afternoon.

Speaking of solar, it’s been sunny all day so we set a new record for generation: by 5.30 this afternoon we’d done 3.7kWh. The batteries were on 95 per cent when we got here, and had got to 100 by mid afternoon. We turned the Refleks stove off when we arrived, and after lunch Macc and I went and sat on the locker in the well deck watching the world go by. It was one of the very rare occasions he’s just sat and relaxed; normally he wants to be on the go and getting into stuff all the time.

We were seeing Cal the puppy trainer at 4pm for our third session. She suggested meeting at the recreation ground; theoretically Macc should be waiting until Friday (a week after his jab) before going for a walk, but as we’ve had to use the towpath for his toileting the whole time we’ve had him, we all thought going to the rec was very low risk. We did work on meeting people without jumping up, we met other passing dogs, and then she put him on a long line so we could do recall work outdoors for the first time. It also gave him the chance to have a good old run about, so he was exhausted by the time we got back.
