Droitwich: Friday

We’ve got the morning routine with Macc sorted when there are two of us, but with Adrian away it was a bit all over the place this morning. An additional complication was that Macc has had a bit of stickiness from this eyes the past couple of days, so I did an online consultation with first a nurse and then a vet. I have to say the service (which is part of our M&S pet insurance) was excellent. I’m basically having to wash away the gunk with cold boiled water, and hopefully it will clear up. All of that, plus waiting for Macc to settle back in his crate, meant I was pretty late getting a shower this morning. Not long after, Briar Rose was on the move up to the park for the festival, so Macc and I followed along the towpath. In fact we ended up swinging the second bridge.

Andy then turned around before the Barge Lock, so the side hatch was on the correct side for trading. It’s a bit tight there, but he got round fine.

Once in the allotted slot on the towpath, Macc was keen to help with mooring up. At least, I think he was helping!

We had tea on BR and then Helen and Andy looked after Macc for a few minutes while I popped across the road to Waitrose to pick up a couple of John Lewis deliveries. He didn’t even seem to notice I was gone, but then Helen and Andy do seem to be some of his favourite people. When we strolled along again on our post-lunch walk, BR had been transformed into the Jam Boat ready for trading over the weekend. The rest of the day has been a few jobs, much like yesterday, including a couple of loads of washing while we have both sunshine and a handy water tap.

The latest Water Road podcast is out today, this one about Middlewood Way, the footpath and cycle way that used to be a railway line alongside the Macclesfield Canal. You can listen to it here.
