Fingers Crossed: Day 62

Having done today’s boating yesterday, we had no need to move on so decided to stay where we were. It’s a pleasant spot with some good walks, and decent internet. It was very misty first thing, so when I took Macc out, Beeston Castle had all but disappeared.

Adrian spent quite a bit of the morning trying to speak to the right people at the NHS Trust here, to arrange to get the cast taken off his arm. We don’t want to have to go all the way back to Burton for what should be a fairly straightforward thing. Eventually he got through to a very helpful person who took all his details. This afternoon they rang back with an appointment which will work. I’ve been emailing various people about future podcasts, trying to get things set up for the future. After lunch we took Macc for another walk, back to the lock and up towards the castle. As we noted yesterday, Wharton’s Lock takes an age to fill as there’s only one top paddle working. Approaching from below, you can see that there’s water coming through the bottom gates and, of possibly more concern, through the brickwork under the balance beam.

The mist had cleared and the sun had made an effort to come out, so the bulk of Beeston Castle loomed over us. In one of the fields, separated from only by only a single wire electric fence, a huge bull also looked pretty looming.

The field between the canal and the railway line has no cattle in it, so Macc could have a run. He found a piece of wood and charged about carrying it.

This afternoon Adrian has been doing work for the charity he’s involved with, and I’ve done very little.
