The shell is finished

We’ve made another visit to Tim Tyler’s workshop, to see the finished Kingley Vale. Tim contacted us yesterday to say they’d be starting to paint the boat today, so if we wanted to see it in bare metal, this morning was the time to go. She looks fantastic!

There is some fantastic detailing, such as scrolls and recessed panels.

And we asked for the same type of fender eyes that we have on our current boat. They’re set into the gunwale, rather than being below. They’re must take a lot of time to do, but they’re really smart.

We were also able to climb up onto the stern deck, to see what it looks like inside. You can see all the bracing, and work out where things will be.

Adrian took a video round the boat.

Kingley Vale, finished shell.

It was great to see the boat like this, in fact we both felt quite emotional. It was also great to chat to Tim about it. The next time we see her, she’ll be on the back on a lorry, and then going in the water for the first time.

For more on how we got here today, there’s a full report on the Briar Rose blog.
