While the view of Tesco across the canal is nothing special, just ahead of us along the towpath is access to Rickmansworth Aquadrome, are area of lakes and paths. It’s excellent for dog walking.
The nearest lake to us in Batchworth Lake, and this afternoon there was a speedboat with a water skier attached. The next lake over is Bury Lake, and there’s a sailing club there.
The reason we needed to move in the rain yesterday was that Adrian needed a station. At about 11 we set off to walk there, although Macc and I branched off halfway. We had planned to be in Birmingham by now, as Adrian and Helen have tickets for The Archers Live at Symphony Hall this evening. As we’re not there, he got the tube into London and then the train to New Street. On my way back we passed Jen and Justin from yesterday, who were about to head off. Justin did a really professional turn in the arm by Tesco’s; you’d never think that yesterday was his first day steering a narrowboat.
Meanwhile, I have made the most of some decent weather and a low tow path and put some black paint on the gunwale; it’s the side I haven’t done before so there were some scrapes to cover up. Macc and I have also been for a few walks round the lake. We’re doing a lot of work at the moment on trying to control his excitement at meeting other dogs. One training tool we’re trying it to make the meetings short, so he gets to say hello but only for three seconds before we move on — which is before the leaping about like a loon kicks in. He’s a fast learner, and things are already better.
