Nice and sunny this morning, but still pretty windy. Adrian took Macc out for a breakfast walk round the lake, and as it was quite chilly we had porridge. We set off at about 8.45, and Tattenhill Lock was just around the corner.

Bridge 36 looks impossibly narrow as you approach.

We went up Barton Lock, where we bought some tomatoes and a jar of chutney from the box alongside. We then past the marina. There’s a cinema in one of the buildings on the far side.

Wychnor Lock has two bridges immediately before it. It takes you down onto the river section, and past the church.

The other end of the river is Alrewas Lock, which like all the others, just needed a little bit of water let out before we could go it.

There were no spaces on the moorings immediately above the lock, but we stopped on the water point to fill the tank and to check out what was available round the corner. We chose a spot round by the churchyard.

It was lunchtime by the time we were moored, and as it was a bit chilly we fancied soup — so I popped over the bridge to the bakery and got a rosemary-infused sourdough. All the prices were 10 per cent off as it was their first anniversary of opening.

I took Macc for a walk, and then in the afternoon Adrian went to The Crown to meet his former colleague, Stuart, and his partner Helen; I joined them with Macc once Macc had woken up from a nap. Then we were joined by Emma and Greg from Kingdom of Rust, who are moored along from us. Stuart and Helen left about 6, and the rest of us ended up having dinner at the pub, hence the late posting of this blog!
5 miles, 4 locks. (263 miles, 170 locks)

We found the tomatoes to be very tasty, a shame we’ve run out!
