Another hot and sunny day. Adrian was working on the Braidbar stand for the first couple of hours of the show being open, so I started writing up the boats I’d seen yesterday. However Macc wouldn’t settle so I ended up going over to the show ground for a bit. After lunch, a whole procession of people on the towpath were asking questions about boats, and Greg from Kingdom of Rust next door to us, and I, did our best to answer them. Adrian went to the village to get some more food from the Co-op, and while he was out, our friends Chris and Simon came round. I wrote the boat test for Canal Boat magazine on their boat, Jolly Good, in 2019; they’ve been Crick regulars as their boat was the show boat the following year; and we had a lovely evening with them in 2023, when we both happened to be moored at Barlston. They had the guided tour of KV, and Simon has a background in woodwork so it was really gratifying to hear his say that the joinery on our boat is very good! He’s having a tough time with his health at the moment, so it was good to be able to offer him a sit down in the relative cool, a cup of tea, and a rest. Adrian got back, and we all had a really lovely chat about all sorts of things.

I often find the last part of the show day is a good time to look at boats because the crowds have reduced a bit, so I went and looked at a boat which only arrived last evening. It’s been a day where chatting and catching up with people has been to the fore.
