We headed out this morning to drop something off at Braidbar, going up Middlewood Way and back via the towpath. But when we got to Bridge 16 we decided to divert over the bridge and up the hill, then along the track and the road to Pott Shrigley. There’s a cafe in an unusual building there that’s only open Thursday to Sunday, so today seemed like a good opportunity to visit.

We were the only people there to start with, so we asked the owner about the building. It was built as a reading room to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, then became a cafe, and then just a storage shed. He turned it back into a cafe in about 2018. Most of the building is original, but he put the balconies in to make it less cavernous.

We had tea and crumpets — which turned out to be home made and very nice. The place gets good reviews for all its food online.

We came back down the hill to the marina, and by the time we got back some diesel had been delivered. As we’d headed out, I’d left our can by the office door and emailed to ask if we could have 60 litres. Darren the manager then fills the can and some of his spares, and drops them round.

I spent the next little while topping up the tank, which is now the fullest it’s been. Then I took the cans back and paid our bill.
This afternoon, Adrian has been packing as we go away for a bit tomorrow, and I made the first use of our dog shower, to clean our muddy boots. We have a fitting on the front deck which takes a little shower fitting, so I used it to put some water in the bucket and rinse off the boots.

We’re now pretty much ready for the off, so the next post will be when we’re back.

Have a good time in the white stuff. Did you plan your holiday so you’d be able to watch the Traitors final?
Of course!
