Oxford: Day 1

Being able to plug in to electric while on the towpath is a real plus. Although the price of a unit doesn’t seem to be on the website, we’ve worked out that it’s very reasonable. This morning while Adrian walked into town to do a bit of shopping, I did an equalisation charge on the batteries and then made sure they were topped up.

Before that though, I’d taken Macc for a walk on Port Meadow and found that the cows were all over our route. It meant no off-lead time this morning.

Macc had a run about on the long lead in a deserted recreation ground just before lunch, and this afternoon we took him back to Port Meadow. Having walked across it, Adrian and Macc headed back to the boat while I went across to the river. A rather rickety bridge goes over the end of the backwater moorings.

Most people then turned right and went over the river to the cafe on the other side. I turned left and walked down the island to Sheepwash Channel, which has a bridge over it.

The path goes under the railway line and past a restored rail swing bridge, which has just a couple of yards of track at either end.
