Adrian walked into town after breakfast to get a hair cut, then a bit later in the morning I went to Waitrose on Bottley Road for wine replenishment purposes and a few other things. There’s a lot of work going on in the area, with the railway bridge over the road seemingly being rebuilt, and Thames Water doing work on Osney Bridge. The bridge is down to one lane (although as the road beyond is closed it doesn’t make much difference) and there are temporary pipes crossing the river just beyond.
After lunch we took Macc for a walk that was probably a bit too long for him — down Sheepwash Channel, up the Thames Path and into Port Meadow.
We crossed that end of the meadow and came back via the towpath, opposite the very large development of flats.
It was quite noisy here this morning because they seem to have started the clearance of the old Jericho Wharf site. Hopefully they’ll do something about the hoardings, which are falling down. This afternoon there have been multiple hire boats past, from College Cruisers. They go down Isis Lock, turn around and head past again, so that’s quite a few lockfulls of water lost to the Thames.
This afternoon Adrian got a train down to Winchester. He’s off on a trip with our friend Mark who works for BA, on staff travel. So Macc and I will be holding the fort for a few days.
