Much fresher today with quite a breeze blowing. Macc had his usual run about in the meadow, and once he was having his mid morning nap I went for a longer walk, up to the ruins on top of a hill the other side of the river. I walked down to the footbridge and went over.

On the other side of the river there’s a little spring with a tiny bridge over it.

Then I took Ferry Lane up the hill, which crosses the railway line just after it comes out of the St Catherine’s Tunnel, which is 138 yards long. I must have been through it hundreds of times on the way to and from work.

On top of the hill are the remains of St Catherine’s Chapel, in its own bit of parkland.

From up here there are views in many directions. I could see the castle I visited yesterday, and looking south there’s the railway line after it’s come out of the other end of the tunnel.

At lunchtime we had a visit from our friends John and Mark, who drove over from Winchester. It was really lovely to see them — the last time was when they came and spend a couple of days with us on Briar Rose in September. They brought some parcels we’d had sent to their address, we caught up on news, had lunch, and took Macc for a race around in the meadow, and all too soon it was time for them to head home to their dog, Bowie, who’d been feeling a bit under the weather this morning so had stayed behind. Macc thoroughly enjoyed having visitors.
