As we’d already got a day ahead of schedule, we decided to have a non moving day rather than trying our luck for a mooring down at Brentford. Part of the reason was that Ethorne Park is great for walking Macc — safe enough for him to go off the lead quite a bit. We have found a sculpture known as as Stone Row, which is probably a bit more underwhelming than the name suggests.

There’s also a path down to the canal, just by the weir above the next lock where the River Brent goes off again. The weir itself is interestingly shaped.

This morning Adrian did stuff for the charity he works for, so I went for a walk into Hanwell. There’s quite a decent town centre with plenty of shops, and a clock tower put up (as you might expect from the look of it) in 1937.

I came back via a residential street where a house on the corner has a rather nice mural. It’s so significant, it appears of Google Maps!

Then I turned down past The Fox, which lots of boaters seem to like and which looks very inviting, and joined the towpath just below Hanwell Locks, where the River Brent comes in. It’s the canal on the left, the river on the right.

We had some nice sausage rolls for lunch, that I bought at a little bakery in town. This afternoon, Adrian went for a walk while I put together and scheduled another podcast.
Tomorrow we have a day of two halves, because first we need to go to Brentford, and then later in the afternoon we’ll be doing the tidal Thames up to Teddington. This afternoon we’ll saw one of the boats we know from our visit to the Aylesbury Canal Society, and Adrian chatted to them as he went for a walk down to the next lock. They’re also going out onto the Thames tomorrow; judging by the booking system, there will likely be another boat too.
